Bone13

Bone13 wakes up in a sparse room, puts on some clothes, and gets his gear from the dresser. We see the objects of his daily life — money clip, phone, watch, gum, new sneakers, headphones, etc. Bone assembles his gear and heads out to the streets.

Bone13 monologues, ‘This is not one of those stories where the minority kid represents what’s real on the streets. Shit is not real on these streets.’

Bone walks past a thug who is looking at him while he takes a break from beating up someone on the ground. Bone sees the gun in the back of his pants. Bone just nods at him.

‘Well, ‘T’ keeps it real, anyways.

Travis’ car is parked in the Mission District. He’s scanning through the Overdrive app while sitting on his hood drinking a kombucha tea. He makes a face when he sips on it, but keeps drinking.

‘Candy, Candy, Candy, where are you…, ? Ahhhh.., got you! What are you doing there?’

Travis is looking at a detailed view of her profile. He looks up and sees Bone approaching.

‘Hey man, how come I can’t get a cab in the hood?’

‘I’m here now. You got cash’

‘Whatcha think?’ He stares at him and gesture to his clothes and chain.

‘Get in.’

‘How bout you Overdrive me to Noe Valley?’

‘Aight!’

Bone laughs at Travis’ reply. Bone’s profile appears on the Overdrive app displaying his most frequent drop-off spots.

‘Gotta make that cheddar!’

‘Right. How are you doing today, sir?’

‘Sir!? I like that! Ay man, how come you don’t ask me where-to-sir?’

‘It says it on the app already’. Travis shows him the phone.

‘I know that shit! It’s sounds better though, like in the movies, “Where to sir”, he says with a perfect English accent.

Doing his best accent, half playing along, ‘Where to sir?’

‘Yeahhhh’, he sit’s back, like he’s the man now, ‘I like this! You alright. What they call you?’

‘Travis.’

‘Travis!? You a fuckin’ cowboy or something?’

‘Nah, I tried, but they wouldn’t have me.’

‘That’s funny — I bet you a redneck though.’

‘Can’t help what you are’, Travis smiles into the mirror.

‘Ain’t that the truth,’ serious now, looking out the window.

Travis’ app lights and says ’master proximity’. Emoticon is in waiting mode. Bone’s app is displaying the same thing.

‘So, what’s your name kid?’

‘Kid? Does a kid ride like me’, gestures around the car, ‘Feel me?’

‘Right.’

“You alright Travis — for a cracker. I’m Bone13.’

‘What’s the 13 for?’

‘I don’t know — guess there were 12 motherfuckers that got there before me.’

The App says it is “syncing” and it’s emoticon changes to a focusing face.

‘Man, you know I really like this Overdrive shit! Makes you feel like a player — like the coach put you in the game.’

‘That’s a good feeling.’

‘Hey, you got some kind of company advertising on your wifi? My phone is bugging out.’

‘I don’t think.., wait.., my phone’s bugging too, huh?’

‘Here — let me off here.’

‘You sure — alright.’

Bone types in an amount on his phone. ‘Keep the change’, he says like a big shot. ‘Tell your company to stop playing with people’s phones, aight!’

‘I will. Good looking out!’

Bone is amused at Travis’ effort and gives him a pound through the window.

‘Aight then, Travis!’, he says sincerely.

The emoticon blinks and the app displays “networked!”. Bone see’s the same thing on his phone and looks back at Travis’ car.
